INFORMATION ON VITAMIN B5 (CA-D-PANTOTHENATE)

Vitamin B5 is a precursor to Coenzyme A (CoA) and acyl carrier protein, both critical for energy metabolism and fatty acid synthesis.

Functions:

  • Enables Krebs cycle energy production
  • Essential for acetyl-CoA formation (key in neurotransmitters, hormones, cholesterol)
  • Involved in synthesis of steroid hormones (cortisol, testosterone, estrogen)
  • Supports healthy wound healing and tissue repair

POPULAR USE & PUBLISHED BENEFITS bbbb

Pantothenic acid is commonly used to support:

  • Energy production from fats, proteins, and carbohydrates
  • Stress resilience and adrenal function (“anti-stress vitamin”)
  • Healthy skin, hair, and wound healing
  • Cholesterol and steroid hormone synthesis
  • Nervous system and mental performance
  • Red blood cell formation

WHOLE FOODS

Animal Sources:

  • Liver, kidney, chicken, beef, eggs, salmon, shellfish

Plant-Based Sources:

  • Sunflower seeds, avocados, mushrooms, sweet potatoes, lentils, broccoli, whole grains

RECOMMENDED USE

Synergistic Nutrients:

  • Vitamin C: Works with B5 in adrenal hormone production
  • B6 + B12: Complement energy and neurotransmitter metabolism
  • CoQ10 & L-carnitine: Work in synergy with CoA pathways

Typical Dosages:

  • Maintenance: 5–10 mg/day
  • Functional support: 50–100 mg/day
  • Therapeutic (acne, stress, adrenal support): 250–500 mg/day (pantethine often used at 300–900 mg/day in studies)
