INFORMATION ON GREEN TEA EXTRACT

Green tea extract is made from unfermented leaves and as one of the less processed types of teas, contains the highest concentration of powerful antioxidants called polyphenols.

Antioxidants are compounds that help destroy potentially harmful free radicals, protecting cells and molecules from damage.

Epigallocatechin Gallate (EGCG) is a powerful antioxidant, abundantly found in green tea and may be one of the main reasons for its strong medicinal properties. EGCG is the most researched and bioactive polyphenol in tea and proven most effective in the elimination of free radicals. It is said to stimulate fat burning, increase resting metabolism and help regulate glucose levels by inhibiting absorption of carbohydrates. Further more ECGC can help decrease arterial inflammation and sticky buildup, as well as lower cholesterol and blood pressure.

Due to the prominence of cardiovascular disease and the dramatic rise of obesity and type 2 diabetes, Green tea and EGCG are increasingly being investigated in these areas. Numerous studies demonstrate their cardiovascular and metabolic benefits.

Almost every organ system in the body seems to benefit from Green tea extract, as it is cardioprotective, neuroprotective, anti-obesity, anti-carcinogenic, anti-diabetic, anti-artherogenic, liver protective and beneficial for blood vessel health.

Several clinical studies reported Green tea advantageous in the protection against cancer, and it is believed that polyphenols (micro-nutrients acting as antioxidants) help kill cancerous cells and disrupts their growth.

Green tea may also give an immunity boost to individuals under stress, and enhance cognitive function, particurly the working memory.

How it works:

Green tea is not oxidized (fermented) during its processing and is able to retain much of its important molecules called polyphenols.

Polyphenols, or plant-based antioxidants, seem to be responsible for many of green tea's benefits, and have disease-fighting properties as well as halt the degenerative process in cells. Antioxidants neutralize free radicals by donating electrons, in order to modulate oxidation, caused by free radical molecules, missing one or more electrons. By breaking the free radical chain reaction, antioxidants prevent accelerated tissue and organ damage.

Green tea also contains some caffeine, which affects thinking and alertness and is thought to stimulate the nervous system, heart, and muscles by increasing the release of certain chemicals in the brain called “neurotransmitters.”
